This opportunity would suit energetic individuals who enjoy learning, the challenge of a busy hospital and who enjoy a multi-disciplinary specialist hospital environment.

 

Full time hours will include day and night shifts, weekends and public holidays on a rotational roster. Shifts are mostly 12 hours, with an average of three shifts weekly.

About You

• Possess a veterinary degree/ qualifications registrable with the Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS)

• Memberships in ECC and/or rotational internship would be a bonus

• At least 1-2 years’ clinical experience preferred

• Ability to perform upper GI scopes and some emergency surgeries an advantage

• Still get excited when you pull a rubber ducky out of the oesophagus, stomach or duodenum. (Basically ECC excites you)

The Role​

• Undertake daily rounds, treatments, routines and care of in-patients 

• Perform all procedures, treatment and investigations 

• Discuss case referral for specialist treatment where required

• Document patient condition and vital signs

• Ensure that a high level of hygiene in the kennel areas is maintained, taking into account isolation

• Adopt a compassionate, empathetic and caring approach to all patients and clients

• Ensure safe handling of animals

• Ensure clients are clearly informed of estimated costs, patient status and progress, condition and after care 

• Ensure admission and discharge of patients

• Perform all administrative tasks for which the veterinarian is responsible

• Liaise with referring veterinarians, and preparation of referral letters

• Manage time on shift appropriately to keep up with caseload and delegate tasks to nursing team appropriately
